Truthfully, I have never been the type of person to just believe everything I am told at face value. I have never been accepting of circular logic, or reasoning without evidence. That does not mean that I have never tried to buy into ideas or ways of thinking in spite of my own internal objections. Proof of that fact lies within the reason for the name of this page and blog. FormerlyNorm is me. My desire to be “normal” was deeply entrenched in my desire to believe what was suppose to be true.
There was a time when I thought I wanted to be the guy with the wife and two kids, predictable job, and basically, a predictable life. That’s who I was and how hard I was trying to be “normal” in spite of the hand life had dealt me to that point. Medically I had lived through a variety of bizarre illnesses and genetic defects from an intussusception as a kid (mine got so bad gangrene had already set in) to adult onset type 1 diabetes, with some spina bifida occulta thrown in there as well just for good measure.
In my family there was never a shortage of drama, to say the least. I had also dealt with severe bullying in middle school and as a result, suicidal depression. Basically you could say I’m just a guy who has lived through some weird shit, and what I’ve found is you either try really hard to be “normal”, or you can say fuck it and just embrace the weird.
